Radial dependence of magnetohydrodynamic continuum modes in axisymmetric toroidal geometry
A characteristic feature of modes in the continua of magnetohydrodynamics is their singularity at magnetic surface. For axisymmetric toroidal configurations the dependence of continuum modes on the distance is reexamined. It is found that, in general, the normal component of the plasma displacement has an oscillatory type of singularity. Configurations with up/down symmetry pertain to these classes.
