Basic Aspects of Sub-Critical Systems based on Thin Actinides Films
Through the use of thin layers of fissile material one can design near critical systems in which the absolute amount of fissile material is small yet with very favourable heat transfer properties. In the present paper we present the results of a basic investigation of such systems. In addition, we describe an application of such a system based on these films, to boost neutron production in spallation sources.
