Moving from 2D to real 3D medical imaging
The availability of the huge amount of information provided by the data sets of the Visible Man and Woman offers new possibilities to medical and bioengineering professionals and researchers at the expense of higher visualization problems. The Visible Human Dataset allows the generation of 3D models of any anatomical structure of the human body with a level of detail never reached before. Both 2D images and 3D models can be used for educational purposes, for simulation of interventions or for navigation inside human body, but also to develop computer aided surgery tools and environment, or to have a deeper understanding of human anatomy.
