Simulation of the runaway transient during esterification processes, by using the fast running relief code
In case of thermal runaway accidental events in batch type reactors, safe reaction products releases must be assured. Such a requirement, in recent years, urged various researchers and research institutions to expend more theoretical and experimental efforts in order to improve the knowledge of the complex phenomenology associated with pressure relief in two-phase, multicomponent systems, with the aim to achieving models and methods for the design of safe emergency relief apparatus. In this framework, the JRC of Ispra, Italy, produced the RELIEF code which, making use of a one-dimensional model, describes the behaviour of two-phase, multicomponent, chemical reacting fluids during accidental transients.
