In order to analyze the behavior of plasmas with ion cyclotron resonance frequency heating, a code to calculate the ICRF power deposition and the distribution function of the resonating ions is needed. Furthermore, it is often desirable to carry out such calculations on a routine basis. In principle one can calculate the ICRF power deposition with full wave codes or ray tracing codes and the distribution function with Fokker-Planck codes solving the bounce averaged distribution function. However, such codes require large amounts of CPU time. In addition, because of problems with convergence, physical solutions cannot always be guaranteed with toadies computer technology. Therefore, these codes are not particularly suitable for routine analysis of experiments with ICRF heating, and there is a need for simpler , but still sufficiently accurate models of the ICRF related physics.
