Finite Element and Finite Volume Simulation of Industrial Past, transient, Fluid Structure Interactions
This paper reviews the techniques and algorithms used within the PLEXIS 3-C computer code for the numerical modelling of the fluid-structure interactions in nonlinear fast transient dynamics and arbitrarily complex 3D geometrical configurations. Both finite element and finite volume discretion's of the fluid domain are considered and the peculiarities of each with repeat to FSI are highlighted. The methods are used with success in many industrial applications, including gas explosions in hydroelectric power plants, transformers, pipelines, buildings, reactors, offshore and submarine structures, etc.
