Measurements of the neutron total and capture cross sections of the (237)Np in the epithermal energy range
Within the framework of a collaboration between the institute for reference materials and measurements and the commissariat a l'energie atomique, a project has been started to measure the neutron cross sections for nuclear waste transmutation purposes. We describe the measurements of the neutron total and capture cross section of (237)Np, performed at the pulsed white neutron source GELINA of the IRMM in Geel, Belgium. We used the time of flight method to obtain neutron spectra in the energy range from 0.3 ev to 2 Kev. Preliminary resonance parameters obtained from transmutation experiments below 112 ev and comparison with previous measurements are presented here. Besides these measurements, the Doppler effect has also been investigated for Npo(2).
