Abstract

This final year thesis project was carried out at the ISIS, Ispra, Italy. The scope of the study was to enhance the understanding as well as to simulate, more realistically, flow phenomena in unsaturated soils. The unsaturated zone in soil extends from the soil/atmosphere interface down to the water table. The unsaturated zone is a key component in wetland ecosystems and in many physical problems including waste disposal facility, ground-water contamination clean-up, and transport of agricultural chemicals.
