Neutron diffraction on a Uga(3) single crystal
The magnetic structure of antiferromagnetic Uga(3) has been examined by neutron diffraction measurements on a single crystal. The ordered magnetic moment is 0.74 per U atom at 5 K. From measurements with an applied magnetic field we suggest that the moments are along the direction. In the vicinity of 40 K the mosaic of the crystal changes significantly. This coincides with the anomaly in the magnetic susceptibility observed at the same temperature, indicating a possible crystallographic distortion or a reorientation of the magnetic moments.
