Green Lighting in Non-residential Buildings In Europe
Lighting accounts for a substantial part of electricity use in non-residential buildings and despite a number of significant energy-efficient lighting initiatives from certain member states and DGXII, the most recent estimations tend to show that the potential for energy savings remains high in Europe. DGXVII has decided to react by launching soon a EU green light programme encouraging non-residential electricity consumers to commit themselves to install energy-efficient lighting technologies in their facilities wherever it is profitable, and lighting quality is maintained or improved. Such a programme benefits from promising prospects and the active support of the European Energy Agencies.
