Abstract

Based on the findings of the TRISEE research project, the practical possibilities to account for 2D geological effects in design codes is discussed. 2D effects result in large local amplifications in the soil acceleration. The importance of these effects is confirmed by nonlinear response spectra. A simple modification of the design spectrum is proposed
