Abstract

Pollution of the land and the natural groundwater zones by chemicals is today a common problem all over the world. It is realized that remediation of contaminated soils is ever increasing importance as more and more industrial and other sites have been noted to leak contaminants to the groundwater, to the air and to the land surface we come into contact with. There are numerous sites that are suspected to be contaminated and which may have to be remediated. Future additional contamination due to spills and accidents in industry, transport, agriculture, and even in the home environment, cannot always be avoided.
