Abstract

The International Phebus FP programme, launched in the late 80s by IPSN, the European Commission and EdF provides a unique opportunity to perform integral severe accident experiments using real core materials and scaled, well instrumented models of the primary circuit containment. The results are used by the partners to validate and improve severe accident measures, and assess the safety of the next generation of nuclear plants.

In this paper the status of PHEBUS FP after the first three tests is presented from the viewpoint of key safety issues, as identified by a panel of regulators and industry representatives. .
