The work presented in this report has been done at the Environment Institute, Joint Research Centre, Ispra in cooperation with the University of Louvain la Neuve.

This report contains the description the TVM-LES model, that has been developed at the JRC Ispra.
Chapter 1 is intended to introduce the LES technique as applied to the atmospheric studies. LES models solve the fluid dynamic conservation equations with a great spatial and temporal accuracy, providing a good tool to study atmospheric turbulence in the planetary boundary layer. In Chapter 2, a detailed description of the TVM-LES model is given. A particular attention is dedicated to the description of the vorticity formulation, which is the characteristic feature of the code. Chapter 3, presents an example of the TVM-LES application to simulate a convective boundary layer. To validate the model, the TVM-LES results are compared with those obtained by a reference model.
