The paper presents the results from a series of experiments carried out in gas in which metal dusting has been shown to take place. Tests have been carried out at 560 degrees celsius on a range of commercial candidate reformer tube materials and on a specially cast higher-Si alloy. The principal factors involved have been studied and the mechanisms responsible for this severe form of attack are discussed.
