Influence of Safety Measures on the Risks of Transporting Dangerous Goods through Road TunnelsFunded under: FP4-BRITE/EURAM 3
This paper describes a procedure for extending the scope the QRA tunnel model to consider the influence on risk of a number of 'non-native safety measure'. The procedure makes use of expert judgement to adjust risk estimates subject to the introduction of specific measures for different types of tunnels and transportation scenarios. Uncertainty as to the value of these risk adjustment factors is considered using Monte Carlo methods. The implications of considering uncertainty in the risk adjustments factors are discussed with reference to a case study involving the transportation of flammable liquid in a 10km Gran Tunnel.
