Improvement of Passive and Active Neutron Assay Techniques for the Characterization of Radioactive Waste PackagesFunded under: EAEC-NFS 2
A determination of the sources of bias and their minimization is required for reliable and credible quantification in the non-destructive characterization of radioactive waste packages by passive and active neutron assay. For the reduction of the perceived sources of bias either improved methods or the use of additional information may be applied. The latter approach is used to improve the accuracy in passive neutron assay by gathering information on source localization, matrix properties and to distinguish between neutrons originating from spontaneous fission and from an reactions.
