Remote Handling of JET In-Torus Components - A Practical Experience
In 1998 the first remote handling operations were performed inside the JET torus. This involved the removal of the MkIIa divertor and its replacement with the MkII gas box configuration. Over 450 components were handled and the shutdown was successfully completed within the 15-week schedule. All of the components handled during this work had been specifically designed and manufactured to ensure full compatability with the remote handling methods and equipment. In 1999 the remote handling system was used again to install the in-torus components for the new In-Board Pellet Launcher system.
