An In-situ Optical Techniques for Surface Strain Evolution Measurement
An in-situ image capture and processing system for measuring localized strains on the surfaces of test specimens during thermo-mechanical testing is presented. The system measures the movements of naturally occurring contrast on the surfaces of samples which have been conventionally machined and mounted, using digital image correlation techniques adapted from those of particle image velocimetry systems used in the field of fluid mechanics.
