Abstract

This publication is a result of research activities and workshops' contributions of COST Action A10 defence restructuring and conversion. It consists of 20 chapters, with an introduction and concluding part. There are contributions of 26 experts from COST A10 participating countries.

From the three main COST A10 topics, which are the macro-level topic of defence industry restructuring and conversion, the micro-level topic of regional defence restructuring and conversion, and finally, qualitative sociocultural analysis of the phenomenon, the presented book deals mainly with the third one.

The main purpose of focusing upon sociocultural aspects was to define the quality of post-Cold War defence changes. This book consists of contributions in which the two core processes, that is defence restructuring and conversion, received different amounts of attention. It opens the horizons for better comprehension of changes in public images, identifies, perceptions, values, attitudes and orientations, concerning national security and defence at the beginning of 21st century. It encounters the levels of civil society, political governance and military environment. nt.
