Biological UV dosimetry, a tool for assessing the impact of UV radiation on health and ecosystems

The present volume comprises lectures given at the European Commission Advanced Study Course (ASC) on 'Biological UV Dosimetry, A Tool for Assessing the Impacts of UV radiation on health and Ecosystems' which was held in Bad Honnef, Germany, January 26-30, 1998. This interdisciplinary course was organized under the auspices of the Environment and Climate Programme of the European Commission and aimed to summarize the present techniques of UV measurement, to get insight into the numerous biological consequences of a changing UV climate on the different levels of complexity; to introduce the concept of biological UV dosimetry and examples of biological UV dosimeters; to discuss the applicability of different types of biological UV dosimeters on different measurement purposes. With this course, an overview of the different aspects and problems of biological UV dosimetry was given.
