Abstract

In order to help identifying suitable design modifications for complex systems, there is a need to determine how the probabilities of safety or availability critical system states will change when parameters of the system are modified.

This paper presents a technique based on sensitivity analysis for allowing a designer to make the necessary trade-offs between design configurations for satisfying the system dependability requirements. The technique employs fault-tree analysis as basic fault model and outlines a method for concurrent fault tree analysis. The method presented has successfully been implanted and integrated into the tool set ASTRA. .
