Abstract

With the aim of studying the consequences and mechanisms of the ageing process in materials used for nuclear reactor components, the AMES European network started its activity in 1993. Together with ENIQ, NESC, EPERC and HYDANET, AMES forms the 'structural integrity of industrial components' cluster of networks operated by the JRC-IAM of the EU.

The paper describes the objectives, the structure and the strategy of AMES pointing out the actions carried out so far, the results achieved and the projects planned for the new strategy phase, coinciding with the 5th Framework Program, as well as the developments of its extension to East Europe. .
