Abstract

The European Union strategy in Europe focusing on the field of material ageing of key reactor component is briefly described by this presentation.

The achievements, open issues and developments on irradiation embrittlement assessment on VVER Reactor Pressure Vessels are reviewed and summarized in this presentation. The contribution of TACIS/PHARE programs implemented in 1992-1997 in Eastern Europe is presented. The strategy of the the running EU programs focusing on VVER-440 and VVER-1000 RPVs embrittlement assessment briefly described.

The paper shows the AMES network with its own objectives, R & D strategy and capabilities, can provide the required R & D support to tackle many of the open issues related to VVER RPV embrittlement as well as Western Nuclear Power plants (NPPs). s).
