Abstract

The interpretation of nucleation-rate experiments in laminar-flow diffusion chambers requires accurate evaluation of the temperature and concentration fields inside the tube since they determine the saturationratio. In such experiments the combined diffusion of mass and heat leads to supersaturation , and eventually to nucleation-rate peaks downstream the entrance of the pipe. Herein we calculate the saturation ratio for coupled heat and mass transfer processes in laminar-tube flow by solving analytically the equations in two limits, and by proposing an ansatz for the approximate solution in the general case.
