We propose to parameterize the influence of sediment stratification of flow dynamics in terms of a 'variable' von Karmans Constant. The latter is derived from a numerical solution of the model equations describing the vertical structure of the sediment-stratified bottom logarithmic layer followed by the approximation of the vertical mean velocity profiles with a logarithmica law. The model in use is the standard modified b-1 model applied to a sediment-bearing turbulent flow, in the following respects: 1) the mixing length is specified as a function of the Kolmogorov number and 2) the height of the bed-load layer and sediment concentration at the upper boundary of this layer are considered to be dependent on the excess shear bottom stress.
