Therapy-level ultrasonic power measurementFunded under: FP5-GROWTH
A project has been carried out to develop reference methods for the measurement of ultrasonic power with a validated measurement uncertainty of <7% at power levels of 1 to 20 W over the frequency range 1 to 3 MHz of collimated beams. The project has been a collaborative research between the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, The National Physical Laboratory and the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, Prevention and Health. The work has been undertaken under the 4th Framework Programme of the EC, Contract SMT4-CT96-2139. This summary concerns the full project period from 1 April 1997 until 30 June 1999. Four tasks were identified. First: establishment of reference check-sources; second: prevention and detection of cavitation; third: development of standard radiation force balance set-ups and fourth: technical validation of power measurements.
