First Assessment of the IMS Scheme and IMS Projects Overview and Results
Since 1995. An IMS project portfolio including about 20 active projects has been built. The projects represent an international commitment level of around 250 million US dollars and involve about 250 companies and 200 research institutes. In addition to these running projects, there are about 45 new proposals mainly originated in Europe at various stages of development. Industrial sectors involved in the IMS projects include mechanical engineering/machinery, electrical/electronic industry, instruments, sensors, precision equipment, vehicles for land transport and building/construction. The most frequent IT domains are software systems and supply, data processing and related services, and industrial process control systems. Research projects developed by IMS address five technical themes. 1) Total product life cycle issues. 2) Process issues. 3) Strategy planning design tools. 4) Human organization and social issues. 5) Virtual extended enterprise issues.
