  • Status of current programme and proposals for further work to meet the needs of the standards and European industries: the role of EPERC (European Pressure Equipment Research Council)

The European Pressure Equipment Research Council (EPERC), officially launched on the20th October 1995, is a European Network of industries, research laboratories, inspection bodies and governmental institutions. Our specific R&D objectives are linked to problems of design, construction and in-service activities.

For the pressure equipment industry, EPERC is extremely pertinent since a European Council directive on pressure equipment (PED 97/23/EC) approved on 29th May 1997 and must be incorporated in Member State's national laws by November 1999 and will become mandatory in May 2002. The Directive will be implemented through a series of harmonized European standards, which are currently being prepared by CEN. Pressure equipment designs and constructions based upon these standards will guarantee conformance with the essential safety requirements stated in the Directive. EPERC is providing added value to conduct relevant scientific research and development to support new technical standards. .
