Lymphocyte subpopulations, crytokines and trace elements in asymptomatic atopic women exposed to an urban environment

Funded under: FP5

Blood Pb, serum Zn and Cu, as well as urinary Cr, Ni and trans-trans-muconic acid (a metabolite of benzene) and immune parameters of both healthy non-atopic women and atopic women residing in urban areas were determined. The exposure to low levels of such toxic agents, produced by vehicular traffic in an urban environment, exerts effects on immune functions of women.
