Abstract

The aims of the conference were to raise the profile of EU research and policy in the field, to alert both the public and policy-makers to the extent, nature and urgency of the problem, and to translate the results of scientific research into policy development and actions. The conference identified future research priorities at the European level, in particular, identifying gaps in scientific knowledge with respect to policy and management and improving EU actions in this field.

This volume (Volume 2) presents the summary research results of several research projects, mainly funded under the EC environment research programmes. These results are presented under six main topics/areas:

II Climate variability
III Hydrological and soil erosion
IV Mediterranean eco-systems
V Mitigation action management
VI Monitoring and mapping desertification. ication.
