Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This is the final report for this multi-partner/multinational project. It is a summary of the entire project with descriptions of the activities, the main results and conclusions from research work made at Rautaruukki Steel, H³ttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann and BFI.

The development work of the measuring pallets for operational monitoring of process-related data of permeability, waste gas oxygen concentration and temperatures has been finished as planned. The equipment developed for these on-strand measurements are selected as an ANN application to classify different parts of oxygen curves. Classified curves represent certain sintering conditions in which the variables are the amount and quality of fuel, the permeability of bed, the bed height, etc. Based on sintering conditions some rough conclusions can be drawn about changes in mineralogical compositions of sinter and thus also about changes in metallurgical properties of sinter. Results obtained are promising and they also show clearly that such a method is useable. However, a lot of new data is needed before actual control is possible. .
