European Testing and Assessment of Comparability of On-line Sensors/Analysers "ETACS"Funded under: FP5-GROWTH
This project aimed to produce and market sensors for water quality testing that will transfer between the laboratory and the field. Initially the objective was to develop a draft protocol of the sensors. This would describe their capability to test several variables of water quality such as; ammonia, nitrate, and phosphate content, biological oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand and total organic content. These tests will be carried out on-line with the development of the compatible sensors. This would significantly reduce the amount of time spent transferring valuable field data to laboratory equipment for statistical analysis. The technology and software to complete this task will be the same as available for general laboratory work meaning that upgrading is a minimal cost. Therefore the producers of the hardware and the software will benefit by having common specifications for all customers. Final testing of the sensors will be carried out by the standardisation organisation responsible for ISO accreditation. There needs to be further development of the test protocols in order to meet the strict ISO standards and guidelines for field testing equipment.
