The global conclusions of the project are as follows:

For the as-cast strip stage the cooling speed after casting and the coiling temperature are key parameters for the mechanical properties and the formability of the as-cast strip. Whatever the steel grade, the yield strength and the tensile strength are closely related to the microstructure morphology. The level of elongation depends also on the microstructure, but on the homogeneity of the morphology, too. The finer the structure, the better are the material properties. Using cooling units in the way between caster and coiler, the materials properties can be controlled in a wide range.

After cold rolling and annealing treatment, the final mechanical properties of the strip are quite similar to those reached by the conventional route. Among the two processing routes (batch and continuous annealing route) simulated at the laboratory scale, the results obtained show that the batch annealing route is more suitable for the modification of the as-cast structure. re.
