Abstract

The paper outlines the innovations brought in by the Seveso II Directive, in particular:

- safety management systems
- inspections
- integration on major hazard control in land use planning

It also looks briefly at the environmental effects of accidents, and at the implementations of the Directive in EU member states and accession countries.

Finally, the paper discusses possible future developments in major hazard control, both in fixed installations and in other establishments. hments.
