The mathematics of some tomography algorithms used at JET
Mathematical details are given of various tomographic reconstruction algorithms that are in use at JET. These algorithms include constrained optimization (CO) with local basis functions, the Cormack method, methods with natural basis functions and the iterative projection-space reconstruction method. Topics discussed include: derivation of the matrix equation for constrained optimization, variable grid size, basis functions, line integrals, derivative matrices, smoothness matrices, analytical expression of the CO solution, sparce matrix storage, projection-space coordinates, the Cormack method in elliptical coordinates, interpolative generalized natural basis functions and some details of the implementation of the filtered backprojection method.
