Integrated Water Management (Report 1995-98)Funded under: IC-COST
COST Action 682, "Integrated wastewater management", coordinated nationally, founded research activities on a European scale in the field of biological wastewater treatments between-1992 and 1998. Experts from 15 European countries (Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom) participated in the management committee and the working group meetings, and collaborated in research activities. Mathematical models for computer simulations using stoichiometric and kinetic coefficients were developed by joint efforts. The powerful, reliable and flexible models are able to describe biodegradation processes of organic matter, nitrification, denitrification, and phosphorus removal, as well as population dynamics controlled by toxic compounds. The new mathematical models provide better tools to optimise biological processes in wastewater treatment plants. The study concludes the activities and latest results of COST Action 682 between 1995 and 1998.
