Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The awareness of analytical parameters and the identification features of water supplied by the aqueducts are fundamental to evaluate the safety level for public health, according to whatever Health System and local administrations are carried out.

The "hardness" is one of the most useful parameters in qualifying a particular type of drinking water: as a matter of fact, calcium and magnesium cations are and always must be present in drinking water.

Assocasa (National Association Household Products) has looked for a chance of carrying out research on this item for a long time, and managed to work it through thanks to Techware, a research company specializing in this sector.

The data were obtained by an appropriate methodology, applied for the first time here, and gave unexpected results. Data relating to more than 5,600 Communes were collected, that is to say 69% of the total and 82% of the Italian population served by the aqueducts.
