The rationale for this review is to clarify which are the possible screening wear test devices and critically discuss their application. It is also the aim of this paper to analyse the different existing standards applicable to screening wear tests, from a biotribological point of view. The major conclusion of this review is that there is a need to review the existing standards, specifically the test parameters for ensuring adequate biotribological conditions for testing and for allowing comparisons.
