Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This report is not just the result of the isolated effort of just the authors finally responsible for drafting it, but is based on a variety of inputs from an interactive exercise that took place over the last year. First inputs on the key future issues with respect to Europe's competitiveness were given by the IPTS Futures panel on "Political and Economic Context" which met in the autumn of 1998. The internal report which was produced on the basis of this panel's work pre-structured the lines of thinking which led to this 'Competitiveness Map'. A second round of interactions with experts was carried out between the end of 1998 and the middle of 1999, involving also two policy-oriented workshops in Brussels. Finally, a draft version of the 'Competitiveness Map' was the object of a review workshop in November 1999 (see the list of participants in the Annex). The comments made at the workshop helped improve significantly the report's shape and content. The preparation of the report involved also a lot of exchange with colleagues at IPTS, going far beyond the group of contributors.

The valuable -inputs made by all experts and colleagues are fully acknowledged. However, responsibility for the content of the report, as well as for any remaining mistakes, remains with the authors.
