Abstract

The COST Action C6: 'Town and infrastructure planning for safety and urban quality for pedestrians' comprises by mid-2000 36 researchers representing 12 of the 32 COST member countries, and is one of the 15 actions of the urban civil engineering domain of the COST programme.

Its main objectives and missions are to promote better safety and urban quality for pedestrians, particularly (but not only) for citizens with special needs -children, the elderly and the handicapped -and to suggest planning and maintenance techniques aimed at improving urban quality.

The present 'state-of-the-art' report has been compiled based on a questionnaire sent to the delegates of all the countries involved in this action, and is summing up relevant data available in more than 10 countries. It served as an important step for the works/studies implemented by COST Action C6.
