European sea level observing systems (EOSS) Status and future developmentsFunded under: IC-COST
Since its start in 1996, COST Action 40 'European sea-Ievel observing systems (EOSS)' has served as an umbrella, under which various European sea-Ievel activities have been coordinated. Sea-Ievel observations and sea-Ievel related information is of value in many scientific and social applications. The recent developments in monitoring technologies and methodological approaches to observing sea-Ievel as well as the requirements for research and management, urge for further international agreements on observational activities, data storage and exchange, and provision of sea-Ievel related data products. Therefore, EOSS has decided to initiate the setting-up of the European sea-Ievel service (ESEAS), with the major goal to coordinate the long- term monitoring activities of the sea-Ievel along the entire European coastline and to ensure data exchange and the availability of quality-controlled sea-Ievel information to scientific and non- scientific users.
