Abstract

The solubility of helium gas in the Pb-17Li eutectic liquid alloy is a technological parameter of great importance when analysing the operational reliability of the liquid blankets for DEMOnstration fusion reactor (DEMO). This value directly influences the helium-related blanket engineering problems, such as structural stresses due to high helium partial pressures, or helium cavitation phenomena.

A semi-empirical general correlation function to evaluate the helium Henry 's constant in liquid metals has been obtained:

-H(at.fr./ Pa)=4.135E6 * exp(3039/T +0.801.delta{k})
-H being the Henry's constant expressed in at.fr./ Pa, delta{k} the Kumar cohesive parameter expressed in Mpa {1/2}, T the temperature in K.
-The values for the Pb-17Li liquid alloy in the nominal operation temperature range (from 480 to 500 degrees C) are obtained by using the corresponding cohesive parameter: õ{k,Pb-17Li}=16.0 Mpa{1/2}.
