Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

Abstract

This concerted action describes the approaches (in the participating countries) applied to the waste (Low-level and medium-level) acceptance development in order to identify possible tasks for the harmonisation of QA/QC procedures in the European Union. The report sets out, in detail, information concerning:

the organisations involved in the waste management process;
the responsibilities and interfaces;
the role of the waste-checking laboratories;
the philosophy of the QA/QC management system.

It also describes the role of the main organisations involved in radioactive waste management and covers the philosophy behind the different waste acceptance criteria. A number of areas have been identified as possible topics for further harmonisation in QA/QC practices for radioactive waste packages, e.g.:

sampling;
leaching tests;
values for important quantities that are still described in qualitative terms;
documentation;
adoption of the same technical standards.l standards.o back-extrac
