Abstract

This study investigates the influence of wetland hydrology on the ecological functions of the whole ecosystem wetland. The ability of one of the most widely used hydrological models to simulate the current hydrology of a wetland, and to study the hydrological effects of restoration scenarios were also analysed.

In particular, the study focuses on two wetland sites in the vicinity of the southern Baltic Sea, Northeast Germany. One barely impacted salt march (Struck) and one notably impacted salt marsh (Sundische Wiese) were analysed and evaluated with respect to their ecological functions.
