Abstract

Ninety-nine soil samples from the Ispra site have been collected in order to evaluate the distribution of heavy metals (Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) and artificial radioactive elements (specially for (137)CS compared to the natural occurring isotope (40)K).

The results obtained have not shown any evidence of anomalous or harmful concentrations to animals or plants.

All the activities carried out by the researchers at the Joint Research Centre in the last 40 years have been based on the respect for the environment, which is testified by the "goodness" of the soils.
