Numerical Simulation of the Primary Residual Stresses in Plasma sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings
In this paper the deformation characteristics, the solidification process and the induced quenching stresses of a representative set of plasma spray droplets are numerically studied based on given sets of initial conditions for the droplets. The results of this work demonstrate that the primary induced stresses and subsequent cracking are the link between the selected PS processing parameters and the resulted microstructure that is called to sustain the applied thermo-mechanical load.
