Monitoring of ageing effects in structural components based on neutron diffraction
Neutron diffraction is a versatile scientific tool in materials research and fundamental science. It can be used for non-destructive evaluation of residual stress evolution, powder studies and texture analysis, phase transition detection, and for extracting information on micro-structural changes. In this paper an overview is given of the basic principles of the technique, the diffraction facilities available at the HFR, and a selection of results concerning degradation of materials or structures is presented.
