Residual Stress Measurements in Thick Structural Weldments by Means of Neutron Diffraction
Welding residual stresses in large structural components are a major concern with respect to their performance and lifetime. At the High Flux Reactor (HFR), Petten, a new residual stress diffractometer has been installed capable of handling components up to 1000 kg. It has facilitated residual stress measurements in large welded components, and some of the results are presented here.
