Abstract

One of the objectives for the EU-MAST3 MITEC project was to perform application studies to demonstrate the potential of the developed turbulence and stratification microstructure measuring system (MSS). In particular the methodology to investigate the influence of small- scale physical processes on the dynamics of the marine ecosystem had to be developed.

Two intensive measurement campaigns were carried out in the frame of EU-MAST3 MlTEC project to study the influence of meso- and small-scale physical processes onto the development of cyanobacterial blooms at the entrance to the Gulf of Finland in 1998-1999 (CYANO98, CYANO99).

This Scientific Data Report gives an overview of the data processing for scientific applications and contains the preliminary results of the intensive hydrographic-biochemical measurements performed in the Gulf of Finland within a 9-day experiment cy ANO98 in July 1998. Scientists from Finnish Institute of Marine Research, the Pirkanmaa Regional Environmental Center, the Estonian Marine Institute and from the Joint Research Center Space Applications Institute were involved in the data acquisition and processing.
